Early this year Lou Calanche, the director of Legacy Los Angeles, approached RACAIA about designing preliminary alleyway entrances into the surrounding East Los Angeles community and our company was thrilled to be involved.
As a pro-bono project our team, led by architect Richard Chavira, developed a series of concepts and presented them alongside proposals for a new Legacy L.A. community center to a diverse audience of East Los Angeles patrons.
As part of this presentation, youth leaders on the Legacy L.A. Youth Council tackled issues of environmental justice, food access, walk-ability, and access to resources that impact the quality of life in Ramona Gardens. They proposed systems and policy changes to improve health in their community and presented the concepts to the board of Legacy L.A. and stakeholders in the wider neighborhood.
